Salt 1kg

$1.00

Pool salt is used for medicating and de-stressing fish, especially in an aquaponics system. Edible fish should only be medicated with salt, with the correct dosages, and ornamental fish such as koi and goldfish can also benefit from it.

Instructions for medicating edible fish in aquaponics:
Do a ⅓ water change (make sure you condition the water if it is from a tap) and add 3kg of pool
salt to every 1000lt of water (e.g. for 500lt use 1.5kg). Ensure that there is plenty of moving
water and/or use an aerator. Reduce feeding to an absolute minimum. The fish should remain
in salt until they are looking sociable and interested in food. You can test this by throwing tiny
amounts of pellets in. When you think they are looking better, do ⅓ water changes over the next
week or two to bring the water back to fresh (remember, the salt will not evaporate). This salt
level should not adversely affect vegetables in aquaponics.
If you don’t see any improvement within 24 to 48 hours and are still concerned about the fish
health, turn off the water going to the vegetables and increase the salt to 5kg per 1000lt. They
should remain in the salt for at least 2 weeks.

Instructions for medicating ornamental fish:
Do a ⅓ water change (make sure you condition the water if it is from a tap), then use one of
the fish medications that are readily available. Most are between a 3 and 5 day course. Follow
the instructions, ensure that there is plenty of moving water and/or use an aerator. Reduce
feeding to an absolute minimum.

YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE ALL PLANTS SHOULD YOU WISH TO USE THIS OPTION:
Do a ⅓ water change (make sure you condition the water if it is from a tap). Add 6kg of pool
salt to every 1000lt of water (e.g. for 500lt use 3kg). Ensure that there is plenty of moving
water and/or use an aerator. Reduce feeding to an absolute minimum. The fish should remain
in salt until they are looking sociable and interested in food. You can test this by throwing tiny
amounts of pellets in. When you think they are looking better, do ⅓ water changes over the
next week or two to bring the water back to fresh (remember, the salt will not evaporate). You
can re-introduce the plants when your water is back to fresh.
