  • Position on a level sunny spot and half-fill with water.
  • Rinse expanded clay then place in top reservoir section, around the entry pipe and drain.
  • Rinse zeolite gravel then pour into base of pod. (It’s a good idea to sit the pump on a brick over the gravel for extra stability).
  • Connect pump to flexible pipe. There is a hole in the back of the kit for the pump and light cables to go through.
  • Fill up water and run for a week before introducing fish. Maximum 5-8 goldfish, feed small amounts only. If algae starts to build up reduce feeding and pull any algae out by hand.
  • Please note – LED light is not included in this kit.

TIPS

If your pump stops at any time, it is usually because some gravel or algae is blocking it. To clean (without block sponge) you can remove the front cover by squeezing and pulling off, (you may need a little force to prise off), the impellor sits behind the round hole opening, this will twist off to reveal the impellor (looks like a small propeller) this will pull out – inspect, clean and then replace it back in. If you have a block sponge just slide off gently and clean in a bucket of pond water.

Sometimes the fountain head can get blocked, again just remove and clean.

  • If water goes green at any stage (which is normal so don’t panic), just bucket some water out and replace with fresh water (don’t forget to use water conditioner when replacing more than one third).

  • Placing the pump on a brick on top of the gravel may help to stabilise it more so it doesn’t tip.

  • Whatever plants you select for the tray, make sure you rinse off all the soil before planting. Plants will take some time to settle so do be a bit patient. If you wish to just grow water plants only, you can grow these without the expanded clay, just sitting bare rooted in the running water on the top tray.

  • Please don’t use any algae chemicals or treatments, as they will be detrimental to fish, plants and the ecology of the pod. If you are struggling with water clarity we can also recommend the Splosht Bacteria. http://www.woodvalefishandlilyfarm.com.au/product/splosht/   or a couple of handfuls of Zeolite sand at anytime

Your Pod is a living thing harbouring a large range of life, they are not swimming pools or spas. If you take a natural, realistic approach to this form of water gardening then you can expect clean, clear water, expect healthy fish and plants and expect algae at different times or the year.
